A Quality Improvement Study to Improve Inpatient Problem List Use

A report of a QI project aimed at increasing the use of the problem list in inpatient services using Epic. They used the U.S. federal Meaningful Use concept (i.e., that there is at least one problem on the list OR acknowledgment that there were no problems) as the definition of problem list use. Such a definition does not take into account how the problem list is used in care or whether it is accurate or complete, but it did represent a concerted effort to move from organ-system-based to problem-based processes.
