Actionable Recommendations in the Bright Futures Child Health Supervision Guidelines

The Bright Futures guidelines set an ambitious standard for what should happen at well-child (health supervision) visits. The responsibility of insuring that these principles are put into action is often given to the electronic health record implementer, who is asked to create an “electronic version” of Bright Futures, despite the absence of any published electronic version. This study takes a look at how many recommendations in the BF content are actually implementable (“actionable”) in practice. The takeaway here could be that BF can inform a well-child clinical build, but in order to “do” Bright Futures in software, we are going to need a better definition of what that means.
